Life in Hampshire

1974 - 2011

After moving to Hampshire in 1974 Chas became ill with lung cancer and sadly died the following year. Joyce was lonely and so, with her usual determined style, she set up a social group for people on their own and they enjoyed lots of social activities together, including going to the cinema and going to dances. It was through this social club that Joyce met Roy Young, who soon fell for Joyce and she for him! Roy's wife had also sadly died. Roy and Joyce were happily married for over 25 years and one of their great joys during this time was their travels together - USA, Austria, New Zealand, Australia to name just a few of their many holidays. Roy and Joyce were proud grandparents and thought of their grandchildren even when on holiday. Friends have also been held dearly by both Roy and Joyce - one treasured photo on this site is of Roy and Joyce's 25th Wedding Anniversary party in Terry and June's garden. During one of their holidays Joyce and Roy met Nan and Neil, a couple from New Zealand, with whom they remained steadfast friends for over 20 years, having visited one another. Sadly Roy died over five years ago and Joyce missed him very badly. She had a cat, Sonny, for some time and loved him greatly. As her mobility deteriorated her need to get out and about didn't and she got herself a mobility scooter, going up the road to the shops on a daily basis. Sharon, Joyce's next door neighbour, told of Joyce going up to the shops with Sonny the cat following behind her mobility scooter, holding up the traffic on the zebra crossing! To her great frustration her health slowly deteriorated and she had numerous hospital admissions, so, whilst she will be greatly missed, her friends and family will draw comfort from the fact that she is now at peace. It would be lovely if family and friends add their memories, pictures, poems etc to this memorial please, and on behalf of Mum, I would like to say a very big thankyou to everyone who gave her such love and support...
